1.1 Background of the Study
Agricultural fairs serve as a platform for showcasing innovations, sharing knowledge, and fostering economic activities in rural areas. In Zaria Local Government Area, Kaduna State, agricultural fairs are organized to connect farmers with stakeholders, including government agencies, researchers, and private investors. These events play a crucial role in rural development by promoting modern farming techniques, introducing new technologies, and facilitating access to markets. According to Musa and Ahmed (2023), agricultural fairs also encourage community participation and enhance the socio-economic well-being of rural dwellers. Despite their potential, the impact of agricultural fairs on rural development in Zaria has not been fully explored, particularly in terms of their contribution to agricultural productivity and economic growth.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
Although agricultural fairs are recognized as tools for rural development, their effectiveness in Zaria LGA is often limited by inadequate funding, poor organization, and low farmer participation. These challenges hinder the fairs' ability to achieve their objectives of knowledge dissemination and market access. This study investigates the contribution of agricultural fairs to rural development in Zaria, focusing on their impact and the challenges faced in their organization.
